SUMMARY:Patriot Day
DESCRIPTION:Observe Patriot Day\nOn the direction of the President\, the flag of the United States of America should be displayed on the homes of Americans\, the White House and all United States government buildings in the whole world. The flag should be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect to those who died on September 11\, 2001. Many people observe a moment of silence at 8:46 AM (Eastern Daylight Time). This marks the time that the first plane flew into the World Trade Center. Some communities\, particularly in the areas directly affected by the attacks\, hold special church services or prayer meetings. People who personally experienced the events in 2001 or lost loved ones in them\, may lay flowers or visit memorials. \nPublic Life\nPatriot Day is not a federal holiday and schools and businesses do not close. Public transit systems run on their regular schedules. Some people and organizations may take some time out to hold prayers for the victims of the attacks\, but these do not usually affect public life for more than a few minutes. \nAbout Patriot Day\nOn September 11\, 2001\, four planes were hijacked. The hijackers then deliberately flew three of the planes into two important buildings\, the Pentagon in Washington DC and the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York. The fourth crashed into a field near Shanksville\, Pennsylvania. The loss of life and damage that these hijackings caused form the biggest act of terrorism ever on United States soil. Nearly 3000 people died in the attacks and the economic impact was immense. \nThe attacks have greatly increased attention to national security in the United States. This has had huge implications for United States national and international politics. This is particularly true for the relationships between the United States and Islamic countries in the Middle East. \nSymbols\nThe most potent symbol of the events that happened on September 11\, 2001 are pictures and videos of planes flying into buildings\, of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center engulfed in smoke and later collapsing and of people falling from buildings. Pictures taken of damaged buildings and relatives looking for loved ones in the days and weeks after the attacks are also often shown. The flag of the United States is often displayed around images of the events on September 11\, 2001. This is to remind Americans that their country remained strong in the face of massive terrorist attacks. \nPatriot Day should not be confused with Patriot’s Day\, also known as Patriots Day\, which commemorates the battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775\, which were two of the earliest battles in the American Revolutionary War.

SUMMARY:Suspension of Veteran VA medical care debts during COVID-19 scheduled to end in December
DESCRIPTION:Veterans should be aware and plan accordingly that the current suspension of VA collection actions and extension of terms of previous repayment agreements is scheduled to end December 31\, 2020. \nVA stopped sending monthly billing statements for medical care debt starting April 6\, 2020. This change followed the President’s April 2 announcement that was part of the nation’s relief response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition\, all actions on debts owed to VA in the form of copayments under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Treasury were suspended. \nWith the conclusion of the mandated deferral\, VA plans to begin billing Veterans in January 2021 for those postponed copays. \nIn January\, Veterans should receive a patient statement that includes new copay charges for any care or prescriptions from April 6\, 2020\, through December 31\, 2020\, and any unpaid copays from before April 2020. \nVeterans are not required to make payments until after December\, but they can make them now if they want. \nHow do I pay my VA copay bill?\nVeterans can pay their bill in any of these 4 ways: \nOnline\nPay directly from your bank account or by debit or credit card on the secure Pay.gov website. \n\nBy phone\nCall the VA at 888-827-4817. Be sure to have your account number ready. \n\n  \nBy mail\nSend your payment stub\, along with a check or money order made payable to “VA\,” to the address below. Be sure to include your account number on the check or money order. \nDepartment of Veterans Affairs\nPO Box 3978\nPortland\, OR 97208-3978 \n\n  \nIn person\nVisit your nearest VA medical center and ask for the “agent cashier’s office.” Bring your payment stub\, along with a check or money order made payable to “VA.” Be sure to include your account number on the check or money order. \nThe agent cashier can look up your billing information; just bring a photo ID card. \nPortland VA Medical Center \nAgent cashier’s office\, Bldg. 100\, 3rd floor (open M-F\, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.) \n3710 Southwest US Veterans Hospital Road \nPortland\, OR 97239-2964

SUMMARY:Veterans Day
DESCRIPTION:Veterans Day (originally known as Armistice Day) is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11\, for honoring military veterans\, that is\, persons who have served in the United States Armed Forces (and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable).[1][2] It coincides with other holidays including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day which are celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918\, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. At the urging of major U.S. veteran organizations\, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954. \nVeterans Day is distinct from Memorial Day\, a U.S. public holiday in May. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans\, while Memorial Day honors those who had died while in military service.[3] Another military holiday that also occurs in May\, Armed Forces Day\, honors those currently serving in the U.S. military. Additionally\, Women Veterans Day is recognized by a growing number of U.S. states that specifically honors women who have served in the U.S. military.

SUMMARY:Marine Corps 245th Birthday
DESCRIPTION:Every year around the Marine Corps’ Nov. 10 birthday\, Marines around the world gather to celebrate the history and honor of the Corps while recognizing the young Marines who make up its future. \nParties rage from Las Vegas to San Diego to Okinawa\, Japan\, while more subdued celebrations are held by forward-deployed Marines in the Middle East. Everywhere\, a birthday cake is cut and the birthday message from the 13th Marine Corps Commandant Gen. John A. Lejeune is read. \n\nBut in 2020 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic the celebrations may face new restrictions\, Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Troy Black warned Friday in a message posted on Facebook. \n“Marines\, Sailors\, and family members\, although several months away\, it is probable that many COVID-19 restrictions will still be in place come November 10\, 2020 limiting the size and scope of unit Birthday Ball Ceremonies\,” Black wrote in the message\, first reported by Task & Purpose.

SUMMARY:34th Annual Lough Legacy Veterans Parade - Cancelled
DESCRIPTION:The 34th Annual Lough Legacy Veterans Parade\, which was begun in 1986 by a group of volunteers who recognized a need in the Clark County community to honor veterans\, is cancelled due to the current Coronavirus pandemic. \nRead more here \n_________________________________________________________________________________ \nThe Lough Legacy Veterans Parade celebrates the service and sacrifice area veterans have made for our freedom in partnership with the City of Vancouver.   These events are made possible through a generous donation from Frank and JoAnne Lough who dedicated resources in support of Veterans Day Services. \nYear after year\, dedicated volunteers and local organizations and businesses have helped to ensure that our community can continue to recognize and honor our veterans at the annual Veterans Parade. \nThe parade averages over 110 parade entries\, nearly 3\,000 people marching! Thank you to everyone who braved the weather and participated\, volunteered\, and supported the parade.

SUMMARY:Patriot Day Video Salute
DESCRIPTION:The Historic Trust and its partners present a Patriot Day Salute video to remember those who lost their lives during the 9/11 attacks. \nThe video will also be aired at 10am on channel 23 and 1pm on channel 21 on 9/11. Other days/times can be found here at \nhttps://www.cvtv.org/schedule. \nNineteen years ago\, terrorists hijacked airplanes on September 11 to attack the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington\, D.C. Everyone on board the three planes and nearly 3\,000 people on the ground were killed. A fourth hijacked plane on way to an unknown destination crashed into a field near Shanksville\, Pennsylvania\, killing everyone aboard. We honor those who paid the ultimate price and acknowledge the people who suffer from the aftereffects of the events that unfolded that day. \nThank you to Presenting Sponsor Davidson & Associates Insurance. The Historic Trust is also grateful to its partners the Community Military Appreciation Committee and the City of Vancouver\, along with media sponsor The Columbian\, for making possible this virtual salute. The Trust and partners are grateful to the speakers\, musicians\, and other participants who generously cooperated in making the video. \n__________________________________________________\nObserve Patriot Day\nOn the direction of the President\, the flag of the United States of America should be displayed on the homes of Americans\, the White House and all United States government buildings in the whole world.
